A Victorian Sketchbook
A Victorian Sketchbook compiled by Jim Swan, Chairman of the Dysart Trust, brings together long-forgotten pen and ink drawings of Dysart, Kirkcaldy and West Wemyss by artist John Landless. Landless, who was born in Airdrie, visited Fife between 1886 and 1896 and faithfully drew many local landmarks which would otherwise have gone unrecorded. The original illustrations have been reproduced with an explanatory text, making a charming book which captures Dysart at a time of great industrial prosperity.Drawings include St Serf's Tower, the houses at Pan Ha' many years before they were restored, the now demolished Normand Hall, the Man I' the Rock, and streets and corners of the old Royal Burgh which have long since disappeared. Landless captured images of Dysart that photographers of the time would never have thought of recording with their cameras, and the book adds another dimension to people's appreciation of Dysart's historic and picturesque past.
A Victorian Sketchbook published by The Dysart Trust costs £5 including post and packing for UK orders and £8 elsewhere. Sterling cheques only please made out to The Dysart Trust and sent to PO Box 26839, Kirkcaldy KY2 9AQ
